Job Search App For a Tech Company

Job Search App For a Tech Company

How developing a recruiting app with a video CV feature allowed a US-headquartered tech company to attract hundreds of thousands users — both job seekers and recruiters — to their platform.

About the Project

The idea of our customer was to develop a service that helps with a job search. The target audience for the service is Millennials. Their distinctive feature is extensive involvement with digital technologies. Therefore, the service offers the young generation the facility for them to look for a job in their usual way: by using digital technologies through recording a video CV.

Challenge

The customer tasked us with the development of a mobile application for two platforms: Android and iOS.

The company also plans to entrust us with the development of a web application for recruiters.

Solution

To manage the project’s task, in particular, to record a video CV, the greatest emphasis was placed on the development of the technological backend.

Our team met all the requirements of the customer and successfully delivered the app. The customer was pleased with the efficiency of communications and the quality of work delivered.

Key features

Video CV recording

Adding key skills and tags to facilitate searching

Possibility to maintain correspondence with a potential employer or potential employee

Identification of users through document verification

Possibility to add various social networks

A system of applicants’ ratings, which allows the recruiter to be confident about the honesty and openness of applicants

E-Learning Teen-Targeted Platform For an EdTech Startup

E-Learning Teen-Targeted Platform For an EdTech Startup

How optimizing an educational teen-targeted app, that presents information in the form of songs, helped an edtech startup succeed at a new niche and expand their customer base by 36%.

About the Project

We participated in the development of the mobile educational application (on iOS and Android platforms).

The unique aspect of this educational application is the approach to presenting information. Teenagers are the target audience for the app. To learn about school subjects, information is presented using rap on the background of well-known modern music. The application contains more than 800 tracks on 45 subjects.

We did not code the app from scratch. Our task was to fix or add some modules.

Challenge

The customer asked us to work on both iOS and Android platforms. The main tasks were to:

  • Create the possibility of a premium subscription;
  • Establish different subscription plans;
  • Determine the procedure for assigning homework by the teacher;
  • Provide a combination of tracks and tests in the homework;
  • Automate the completion of tests, as well as provide an opportunity to mark the tests as completed;
  • Work with the display (add the ability to view a full-screen video).

Solution

Our mobile developers (iOS and Android), UI/UX designers and a project manager worked on the project. Developers from the customer also participated.

In addition to performing the tasks that the client assigned us, our developers made a number of changes to optimize the work of the app.

This primarily concerned the iOS version. According to our developers, the previous code was written very poorly. Our team insisted on the optimization of the code in order to improve the quality of the application. After several sprints, the customer agreed with us. We optimized the code, and, as a result, the application began to work in a more stable and faster manner. In addition, the release was made earlier, which pleased our customer.

Key features

More than 800 tracks on 45 school subjects

A teacher can assign homework, and also test the student to check the assimilation of the material

Android VR App For a Mobile Games Company

Android VR App For a Mobile Games Company

How widening their games pool with a Google Daydream-based quiz about American football helped a gaming company to hit a three-minute plato of an average session length (ASL) and achieve a five-minute duration of a single session.

Challenge

The customer needs a Daydream-ready Android app.

Basic functionality required:

  • integration of the controller for interaction with the user interface
  • user interface implementation, suitable for the VK app usage
  • provision of 360-degree video upload and display
  • score calculation and speed of user answers

Solution

Before the implementation, a Google VR SDK (GVR SDK) study was conducted to determine its functionality. The customer wanted to use the native SDK for Android, but this had to be rejected, mainly because of the user interface, which, in such a case, would have to be created from scratch. That is why we decided to use the Unity Game Engine, together with the special version of the GVR SDK for Unity. This option offered ready-made solutions for the development of the user interface, structure of the scene, etc., and ultimately allowed reduction of the time for development.

Key features

The app plays a series of short 360-degree video clips

Each video is followed by questions on the video

By using the controller, the user chooses the correct answers as quickly as they can

When the game is completed, the user can see their scores and compare them with the results of other users

Risk Management Traveling Platform For a US Startup

Risk Management Traveling Platform For a US Startup

How building a traveling app with real-time monitoring and analysis of potential threats in any given area enabled a US-founded startup to take the international market by storm, with one hundred thousand active users worldwide downloading the app in the first post-rollout month.

Challenge

The company’s current portfolio consists of web client and mobile apps for iOS and Android, while a more complex and functional version of the platform for corporate travel managers is being currently developed.

The main goal of the project was to build a functional backend and a web application, as well as a mobile app with a simple, user-friendly UI. Data exchange speed and security were the key requirements for the app since it would need to quickly update maps and enable users to download threat updates, even in remote areas over slow mobile connections.

Solution

Due to the innovative nature of the product, it was initially assumed that many of its aspects would be designed and formalized in parallel with the development process, which made *instinctools recommend Scrum for flexibility and optimal performance.

The use of the agile approach enabled the company to quickly start developing the skeleton of the future solution and to add extra details and features in subsequent iterations.

The mobile clients were built using Angular 2, Ionic 2, and Typescript. The desktop-based management dashboard for Windows and Mac was based on the cross-platform Electrons.js framework – the same framework that was used for developing the desktop version of Slack. In addition, a special Windows service was developed to enable the product to send push notifications to mobile devices.

The solution with all of its components heavily relies on a RESTful API, which ensures future scalability, reliability, modifiability and portability.

Result

Several months of hard work resulted in a successful release of the first version of the product, an online service based on a unique concept and possessing a number of outstanding characteristics. The service provides recreational and professional travelers with a reliable source of trustworthy information about threat levels at any global location and helps them travel with confidence about their safety. This partnership was a gratifying experience for *instinctools and its customer. Not only has the team delivered a powerful and functional solution, but it has also established a friendly relationship with the customer. Thanks to the team’s valuable input, the solution included multiple new features that were not part of the original specification.

Scalability

Real-time updates about emergencies, crime-related or potentially life-threatening situations that may take place or have taken place at a particular location

Tracking of the movement of people and/or their property

Plotting of the safest routes

Tips about local culture

Direct communication with service members and growth of the network of contacts

Near-instant updates about crises arising in the user’s destination area

Feature-Packed Dating App For a US Company

Feature-Packed Dating App For a US Company

How building a dating app around the ideas of 24 potential matches per day and a shot clock to turn a ‘match’ into a ‘date’ allowed a US-based company to hit the mark of 2.4 million total users and 0.2 million paying users in the first post-rollout year.

About the Project

Each hour the user gets a so-called “potential” match, i.e. up to 24 potentials per day.

The user can examine the potential’s profile: photos, common friends, compatibilities, etc. If the user and the potential “like” each other, they become a “match”: from this very moment they can chat with each other, but there is only 24h to start conversation with a new match ortherwise the user will lose this match forever.

In addition to this, there’s one more limitation – the user has only 15 days for getting a real date with the match or the match disappears from the user’s match list. Such features are created to embolden the user to be proactive and meet their match in a real life.

Key features

  • Shot clock / game clock for matches
  • Conversation starters that helps the user to send flirt messages to the match
  • Dynamic questions that help to find touch points between people
  • Unique algorithm for potential generation
